Hi, I’m Sharon (a.k.a. Grammy)!

I’m your Impactful Grandparenting coach and cheerleader with a team of seven grandchildren, ranging from toddlers to preteens.

I love Jesus, my family, my golden retriever Shiloh, reading, walking, yoga, nature, a warm beach vacation, horses, crafts and event planning. Put me in charge of a kid’s birthday party and I’m in all my glory. I’ve been a professional writer since 1982 (yikes, that dates me!) and I’ve done just about everything – newspapers, magazines, advertising, scripts, event planning and more.

My high school sweetheart and I are 40+ years into a loving, committed, humor-filled marriage. We are blessed to have two daughters and one son, all married with kids. We became grandparents at age 51.

Dancing at our son’s wedding held in our backyard.

Being an integral part of the lives of my grandchildren was important to me from the start. They lived in Minnesota. My husband and I lived in Iowa. It worked, but it was challenging. We knew every landmark on I-35 by heart.

Just before the birth of our third grandchild in 2015, a business opportunity opened up in Minnesota. We jumped at the possibility of living nearby. Note: I’m certainly not advising moving close to your kids. We just had that chance and took it.

Since then, I’ve been blessed to spend a lot of time with my littles. But a strategic change occurred when Covid-19 hit in 2020. Suddenly every camp, class and summer activity was shut down. So, I began hosting Cousin Camp once a week for the school-aged grands.

I spent hours planning each day. Each day had a theme, supported by a Bible lesson, activities, games and crafts. It was so rewarding. I shared my experiences with friends – real and Facebook (one of the easiest ways for me to stay in contact with my Iowa friends).

“Wow – you do such awesome things with your grandkids. I could never do that”

“That looks so fun, but I’m not that creative.”

I can’t tell you how many times I heard comments like these. And it’s not true. It just takes time and planning. That’s when my idea for Impactful Grandparenting was born. I am passionate about helping others confidently build lasting connections with their grandchildren to create a legacy of love, faith and fun.

Bible truths, verses and stories are sprinkled throughout Impactful Grandparenting. I want my grandkids firmly rooted in truth, not the truth of the month. I’m guessing you feel the same way, or you wouldn’t be here. But, enough about me. Let’s get started!

Disclaimer: I do not have any professional ministry, counseling or teaching credentials. I do have 10+ years of grandparenting experience and 40+ years of professional writing, event-planning and creative work experience. I actively attend church, have participated in Bible studies for 25+ years, go to women’s conferences, and attend classes and seminars at my local church. I love God and want to share the Word with my grandkids as a source of unchanging truth in an ever-changing world. Again, I’m not even remotely close to being a pastor or expert, but as a Christian, I’m called to make disciples, so that’s one major goal of Impactful Grandparenting.
