During school breaks I host Cousin Camp or Kid Camp. The name depends on whether there is just one child, siblings or cousins. This is where my Action Plans come into play.
To promote team unity, I get each kiddo a camp T-shirt. (Hint: Opt for a bright color – like orange – to help you keep track of campers. I received so many positive comments while we were out and about!)
The huddle. It’s a fan favorite. As soon as everyone arrives, huddle up to talk about the day’s events. We gather around my kitchen island. Begin with the moment your huddled-up kiddos will soon eagerly anticipate: the announcement of the day’s theme. You can adhere to the theme as loosely or as closely as you wish. I LOVE a good theme, but that may not be your jam.
Once the theme is announced, begin with any additional information required. For example, Ninja Day will need some background information about ninjas. Then read a Bible story (Yes, you can relate ninjas to a story in Bible. Check it out!). Beginning the day with a focus on God gets hearts and minds aligned with how God wants us to live.
Next: A short video. Discussion time. And personal sharing. This is key – personal sharing helps them get to know you better and sets the stage for them to open up, too.
Having a plan provides structure, so you aren’t faced with gaping windows of time to fill. And it helps ensure you are fully prepped for the day with any needed supplies. That’s why I created a library of fun with my Action Plans. You can access a free Ninja Day plan to see what a full day looks like.
Please. Please. Please don’t be afraid to explore new territory. Ask your campers what themes they would like. I never would have come up with Ninja Day or The Day of Surprises without their creative little minds. Post your ideas (and pictures) on Facebook or Instagram @ImpactfulGrandparenting so we can all benefit!
